01Problem
- Existing cranial window implants require surgeons to manually glue multiple microscale glass pieces together.
- Time consuming.
- Due to a small size and clear glass material, some windows were lost during the manual gluing process.
- During the glue curing process, there were instances of the glue between glass layers drying in a pattern that interfered with widefield and multiphoton microscopy imaging.
02Solution
- Designed a custom glass cranial window implant that does not obscure imaging but also maintains space between the microscope objective and the brain.
- The well in the implant can be filled with a medium such as water or glycerin. The objective sits in the medium, improving imaging resolution.
- Designed with CAD in Fusion360.
- Proposed material: Borosilicate Glass
